A fantasy romance novel that will be around 100,000 words. I have the book outlined but I haven't begun it yet since I'm focusing my attention on The Dark Witch. The Prince is about a maid called Sarah who, with her sister, discovers said prince who has been exiled from his Kingdom. When Sarah falls in love with him and becomes his wife, she is cast out of her family. The two leave her village together.
Their love is tested when Sarah is kidnapped, the prince becomes King, temptation is thrown both their ways, the Wizard's Council condemns their marriage as false and powerful secrets are revealed. Whether their loves survives or not, Sarah is forced to grow from a fifteen year old naive girl to a wiser woman.
The Prince is the first in a trilogy. Each book will be about the same length and each one is a fantasy romance. I had the idea when I read an essay on Fiction Press a few years back about the roles in society. Typically in fantasy the poor maid will fall madly in love with the prince and they will live happily ever after. But, as the essay mentioned, though this maid will become queen she will be an outcast. A maid would be unlikely to be literate, have the skills of the noble women, she wouldn't speak with the same eloquence as the nobles, she would be gossiped about and when her husband was not around she’d be alone. So I thought about this and decided to write a story based on the idea.
I came up with Sarah. Plain looking, overweight, lack of self esteem, naive but full of compassion and a big heart - Miss Average. My novel would be her journey as she becomes a woman and is forced to grow up quickly and discover the world isn't the wonderful place she once thought it was. I like this story because it's different to the others I've written. I think this one will be more honest and real.
(Author's Secret: I'm still not sure what kind of magic system I'm going to use for this book. Also not sure if I'm going to set it in The Spirit Series world, though I doubt it.)
Second book with Sarah. Have vague outline.
(Author's Secret: I don't know whether to make Sarah the only female aboard the ship or not. I'm thinking of giving the Pirate a neice who despises Sarah but I'm not sure yet.)
Third and final book featuring Sarah. Got a few ideas about it.
(Author's Note: I haven't quite figured out the Stanger yet. He's just as mysterious to me as he is to Sarah.)
Children's fantasy series of five books each 40,000 words long aimed at 9-12 year olds. Similar to Harry Potter... but not. It has magic that most people don't know about, each book is a year long but that's where the similarities end. It's got some horror and comedy. There are four main characters; Thomas, Naomi, Joshua and Reiko. I don't know whether to have one book from a different character's point of view or whatever and I’m having trouble with the ending. The story is still in the preliminary stages.
(Author's Note: Naomi and Joshua were originally Deity and Joshua and were half-siblings, then cousins, then twins, before I decided they would be siblings with ten months difference in age.)
Untitled vampire fiction set in medieval
Ilona is the immediate point of view character, wrote in first person, who, at eighteen, has found herself in a loveless marriage to a man almost three times her age and whose son, from his first marriage, chases after her. Upon meeting Art and his consort Valda, both vampires, he frees her and relieves her of her inhabitations, but she soon finds herself lost in their world. When Art grows tired of her she relies on Lo, the other view point character wrote in third person, a recluse vampire and one of their pack.
There's more to it but that's what I'm comfortable giving. I only write this when the muse takes me and as such it’s a fun project. Who knows, maybe one day it could turn into something serious.
(Author's Note: I love the names Valda and Lo and have used the names in multiple other stories, most notably Valda Cara in The Dark Witch.)
Ah, Pulse. You have gone through so many different characters, plots, themes, genres that I no longer know what I'm writing. Yet another project on hiatus - this one until I decide what to do with it.
I have an idea for a novel set in the Aurath universe but seperate from the characters and events of The Eight. The premise involves two half-sisters with a daemon heritage who travel to find out information about their deceased father. It's something I'm thinking about but not actively working on at the moment.
